Task management includes the planning, administration, monitoring and implementation of tasks.

Task management is often part of project management and process management. The aim is to complete tasks in an agreed framework.

Task management software can either help individuals achieve goals, or groups of individuals can collaborate and share knowledge to achieve collective goals. Tasks also differ in complexity from low to high.

Effective task management requires management of all aspects of a task, including status, priority, time, allocation of human and financial resources, repetition, dependency, notifications, etc. These can be summarized in the basic activities of task management. The management of several individual or team tasks can be supported by specialized software, e.g. B. workflow or project management software. In fact, many believe that task management should serve as the basis for project management activities. Task management software can be part of project management and process management and serve as the basis for an efficient workflow in an organization. Project managers who adhere to task-oriented management have a detailed and up-to-date project schedule and are usually good at leading team members and driving the project forward.

As a discipline, task management encompasses several key activities. There are various conceptual structuring approaches that always include creative, functional, project, service and service activities at a high level.

  • Creative activities relate to the creation of tasks. In context, this should enable task planning, brainstorming, creation, elaboration, clarification, organization, reduction, targeting and preliminary prioritization.
  • Functional activities relate to personnel, sales, quality or other management areas in order to ultimately ensure the production of end products and services for the supply to customers. In context, they should enable you to schedule, report, track, prioritize, configure, delegate, and manage tasks.
  • Project activities concern planning and time and cost reporting. These can include several functional activities, but are always larger and more expedient than the sum of their parts. In connection with project activities, project tasks should be broken down, which are also referred to as the work breakdown structure, task assignment, cross-project inventory and simultaneous access to task databases.
  • Service activities relate to the provision of services to customers and internal companies, including customer relationship management and knowledge management.   • Performance activities relate to tracking performance and performing assigned tasks. In this context, they should enable tracking, cost control, stakeholders and priority.
  • Charts, exportable reports, status updates, appointment adjustments and activity logging. Report activities relate to the presentation of information about the other five activities listed, including the graphical display.
