Looking for a Wrike Alternative?

Compelling Project Management Tool Alternative to Wrike

Are you currently using or testing the project management tool Wrike? The extensive feature set initially convinced you, but the interface is simply not intuitive enough? Certain settings are too complex, making daily work difficult and preventing the tool from being embraced by the team?

You want a combination of feature richness on one hand and ease of use on the other? Then Allegra is exactly right for you — easy to understand and clear despite its extensive feature set. Get started with your team right away. No onboarding time required!

Allegra: The Better Alternative to Wrike

“Learning in a do-it-yourself manner works very well with Allegra. It becomes apparent that great emphasis was placed on consistent and intuitive user guidance during development. That Allegra manages to remain so beginner- and user-friendly despite its high performance is remarkable.” — NETZSIEGER

1. Easy Operation with Customizable Menu Structure

Through consistent drag and drop operation, the functions of Allegra are quick and easy to learn. Tasks can be created with a click and literally “pushed over” to others.

This simple control is found in all areas of Allegra: In the header of the table view, the order and width of columns can be conveniently adjusted via drag and drop. The displayed columns are easily configured through the field list. You learn all other features on the go — namely when you need them.

“Allegra delivers everything you need to organize projects in a team — a powerful and flexible project management tool that is easy to use.” — TRUSTED

2. Attractive Wrike Alternative with RACI Matrix

In addition to comfortable and intuitive drag & drop controls, Allegra project management software particularly stands out through its appealing visualizations and project views. This guarantees you a comprehensive overview!

With the help of the unique Allegra RACI Matrix principle, the project is organized structurally and content-wise. Through the clear, well-structured view, you can build up step by step, providing orientation and the ability to clearly visualize even complex relationships. This way, you always keep the big picture in view.

In addition to a quick overview of the full project scope, you can also directly edit details of individual tasks in the project structure view: Check off checklist items, add comments, and create links.

Guest users are free with both Allegra and Wrike and do not require a paid user seat. However, the number of guest users you can invite to your account is limited with Wrike. Allegra is also a top alternative here, allowing you to invite unlimited guest users.

“A useful feature is the free inclusion of customers and partners as guest users. Customers stay informed about their projects at all times, while external partners can easily be assigned tasks.” — SEVDESK

5. Personal Free Customer Service

Allegra is rounded off by strong and customer-oriented support. Even though Allegra is virtually self-explanatory and enables a direct start without onboarding, questions about certain functions or settings may arise — especially when getting started and testing the software.

Starting from the affordable Standard version, you can take advantage of free support: Whether by phone (local number), email, or video conference — the Allegra support team is at your service.

Unlike Allegra, Wrike offers only limited contact options. Support is possible, but only via a contact form (“submit a ticket”) on the website. You can also provide your phone number and request a callback.

“At Allegra, customer service is still written in capital letters: Personal online presentation of the tool with an expert who answered all our questions immediately. That made our decision easy. The free and truly very friendly phone support provides help at any time when someone from our team has a question.” — PROVEN EXPERT

Allegra: The Best Wrike Alternative on the Market

Anyone looking for a professional and functionally robust project management tool without sacrificing simple, intuitive operation will be happy with Allegra.

Wrike or Allegra?

The question is not easy to answer. The Wrike alternative Allegra is functionally richer and more extensively configurable than Wrike. It supports virtually all common database systems and is very strong from simple task management to agile project management to classic project management and workflow management. Allegra can be customized so that even technically less-inclined users can work with it effectively.

Wrike makes getting started easy through its open-source licensing model. However, it should be noted that for many serious applications, only the paid version provides the necessary feature scope. Below, we compare the two solutions.

Wrike

When looking for free project management software, Wrike ranks quite high on the list in terms of quality and feature scope. The project is among the best solutions I have found. It forked from the Redmine project and is developed independently. It offers a clean, well-organized, and modern interface.

Extensive Feature Set

Wrike is well suited for projects related to software development. The system is extensively configurable. Like Redmine, it offers so-called “modules” that can be activated on a per-project basis. There are modules with functions for tickets (issue tracking), time tracking, news, documents, files, wiki, repository, forums, calendar, and an interactive Gantt view.

Project and Item Hierarchies

Wrike allows creating project hierarchies and item hierarchies of any depth. Items can be linked to each other, e.g., through predecessor-successor relationships. Effort can be categorized and logged.

No Support for Agile Methods

To find out what Wrike does not offer, I looked at the feature list of the paid Enterprise version. It quickly becomes clear that the free version does not include an Agile Board for Scrum and Kanban. There is also no support for single sign-on, attribute highlighting, full-text search in attachments, a useful workflow system, and unfortunately also such a rudimentary function as a multi-select custom field. I also found no way to freely design input forms.

Good for Classic PM and Issue Tracking

The free version is therefore primarily suited for classic project management, task management, and as an issue tracking tool where no workflows are needed and the number of task attributes remains manageable.

Installation and Technology

The project management software Wrike is written in Ruby on Rails and supports the PostgreSQL database system. I installed my test system on a Linux server, which was relatively easy using a Docker container. Installation on Windows servers is possible but challenging.

Wrike Alternative Allegra

The project management software and Wrike alternative Allegra by Alltena comprehensively supports agile, classic, and hybrid project management models. Proven methods such as the Eisenhower Principle, Earned Value, Getting Things Done, and RACI Matrix are consistently applied to ensure clarity even in very large endeavors.

Allegra Project Management Software

Modern, Mature, Complete, but Not Well Known

The Wrike alternative Allegra supports virtually all important features. The user interface is well-organized and modern. The configurability can be somewhat intimidating at first but proves to be logical and well thought out after brief familiarization. The Gantt chart, the Kanban board, the resource view, and the graphical workflow editor are all interactive.

Comprehensive Role and Permission System

The role and permission system of the Wrike alternative makes a well-thought-out impression and is based on the RACI Matrix principle. Access permissions can be set down to individual fields. All important methods such as Earned Value, Milestone Trend, Eisenhower Principle, and Getting Things Done are supported. Drag & drop operations can be performed virtually everywhere.

Allegra supports common database systems and runs on virtually all operating systems. It is written in Java and JavaScript, has been on the market for over ten years, and is used by approximately 10,000 users.

Servers Located in Germany

Allegra Cloud is operated on servers located in Frankfurt am Main, Berlin, and Karlsruhe. Allegra Cloud is fully GDPR-compliant. There is a personally accessible support team available via email, phone, and web conference.
